If you would like to know more about donkeys then you should read further:-
I knew, of the existence of donkeys and I also sat once on a donkey (when I was young in Mijas, Spain), but more of the phenomenon called donkeys was totally unknown to me.
I had been led to believe that they are stupid and stubborn, as the proverb says. Then, when I learned more about them I caught the donkey bug. If you do not want to catch this bug then you should not read on, as it is very contagious. The more you learn, the stronger the bug, so read on at your own risk, to learn more about donkeys who are not crazy at all.

The donkey

Is especially very lovely and affectionate, very inquisitive, beautiful with splendid eyes and of course large ears,( which they move to show their moods), sociable, naughty and be warned, they can be contagious. Why do people think they are stupid? If danger threatens, most animals will run, but donkeys stand stiff as a rod, or will even lay down on the ground, of course this can look stupid but it is because of their origins and shows intelligence and prudence.

Donkeys are from the family of the horses, but they have big differences. They are smaller, are able to cope with extreme weather conditions and are often easier to handle. I told you already, a donkey is not so crazy. A very important difference with horses is that donkeys have a higher pain threshold. A donkey does not show that he has health problems until his condition is very severe. It is therefore very important to know your donkey well so that you can recognize any symptoms of illness early on. The other differences they have are a larger head, larger ears (ahhh, yes those ears) and a tail with a brush at the end.

The domesticated donkeys of today are descended from wild donkeys from the desert of Africa. There are now very few wild donkeys, but 2 types still live in Nubia and Somalia. The Nubian donkeys are brown/grey with a back line and a shoulder cross. The Somali donkeys are larger and more light grey, with a white abdomen and have zebra stripes on the legs, but no cross.

There are also different donkey breeds, including the Grand Noir du Berry and the Poitou. The Poitou are noted for their long hair. The Grand Noir du Berry are originally a working donkey and has the name of a region in France. These 2 breeds are large donkeys but you also have mini donkeys, which were originally used to operate grain mills in Sardinia and Sicily. The donkey has a height from 1.20 metres, the largerbreeds are 1.40 and the mini donkey is 1 metre.
